Your Emotion Brain – Part 4A
If you’re not familiar with my Perspective PowerTM principles them at present, you’re making a fundamental mistake in the way you think about your emotional responses.
If uncorrected, this cognitive mistake will consign you to a lifetime of anxiety, frustration and anger. To illustrate this point, complete the following sentences…
- __________ makes me feel happy.
- __________ makes me feel sad.
- __________ makes me feel angry.
- __________ makes me feel guilty.
- __________ makes me feel inadequate.
- __________ makes me feel hurt.
- __________ makes me feel anxious.
Did a bunch of things spring to mind that make you happy, sad, etc?
Bottom line: To complete the above exercise accurately, there’s only one way to fill the blanks…and it’s not even grammatically correct!
- Me, myself and I makes me feel happy.
- Me, myself and I makes me feel sad.
- Me, myself and I makes me feel angry…and so on.
Most people don’t think this way. Most people say things to themselves and others like…
- Being with my family makes me feel happy.
- A tearjerker movie makes me feel sad.
- My computer crashing makes me feel angry.
- Eating a second portion of chocolate cake makes me feel guilty.
- My boss makes me feel inadequate.
- Unfair criticism makes me feel hurt.
- My upcoming exam makes me feel anxious.
…which is why most people can’t control their emotions.
Let's talk about the I'm A Jerk Reflex
