The path to stress, irritation, conflict and regret is paved with impulsive, overly emotional responses. Unnecessary emotional intensity creates mental static. We miss the obvious and usually end up looking stupid.

Secondly, when we act emotionally, we don't take time to identify which elements of a situation are under our control and which are not. Attempting to exert influence over things that are out of our control is a surefire recipe for frustration.

Thirdly, every time that you allow the emotional part of your brain to take control in situations that don't really require an impulsive response, it becomes progressively more sensitive. Whenever you see someone freak-out over a trivial upset, you're watching the end result of this process, a hair-trigger 'emotional' brain.
