Digit Demo Revisited

Here’s a follow up message about Digit Demo…

A subscriber called Carla wrote:

"News for you Dr. Bedwell. Your toll-free number is "not" on the original email. My co-workers and I looked for the answer somewhere in the email."

In my reply, I highlighted some important Perspective Power principles. I trust you’ll find them useful:

Overlooked Markets?

I see Wal-Mart is back in the news. The mega retailer is repeating a tough price-cutting strategy that worked for them in 2003 and was partly responsible for the demise of the toy store FAO Schwartz. This time around, Wal-Mart have laid down another challenge to their competitors in the toy market - most notably Toys R Us and Target - by significantly lowering prices on over 100 popular toys.

Success Secrets: A Lesson From Borat

Saw the new Borat movie yesterday. Outrageous, politically incorrect and hilarious! The question is, what has this journalist from Kazakhstan - a wacky, fictitious character created by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen - got to do with Perspective Power?

A Bullet To The Brain

Pretend, for a moment, you’re a physician who treats cancer using radiation. One of your patients has an inoperable tumor growing deep inside his brain. If untreated, it will kill him.

The good news: Using a CT scanner, and a frame around the patient’s head, you can precisely aim a narrow beam of radiation that will kill the tumor.

The bad news: Like a bullet, the radiation beam is equally dangerous to everything en route to the tumor. The dose of radiation required to kill the tumor will also kill the normal brain along the entire path of the beam.

Problem: How could you deliver a lethal dose of radiation to the tumor in one treatment, while sparing the surrounding normal brain?

Think for a moment before proceeding…

A Sales Secret: How To Get Quality Referrals

Last week I had the privilege of speaking to the Southern Oregon Agency Group of the State Farm Insurance Company. I found the audience to be wonderfully outgoing, with a heart for service and a commitment to providing quality products.

Part of State Farm’s mission statement is to be a good neighbor. The Southern Oregon Agency Group treats prospects and clients like family. Which, in part, explains why - out of 486 State Farm groups - they rank seventh for performance. Wow!

My job was to provide these State Farm folk with a memorable experience and Perspective Power strategies for supercharging their already outstanding performance. Our goal is to move them from seventh position to first - the top performing State Farm group in America.

The JFK Reverse

The JFK Reverse is a simple strategy for refocusing your perspective on the needs of other people. It’s based on John F. Kennedy’s famous quote:

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

Notice how switching the words reverses the point of view:
Perspective 1: What can my country do for me? This question frames your outlook in terms of self-interest, leading to selfish thoughts and behavior.
Perspective 2: What can I do for my country? This question defines a whole different viewpoint driving public-spirited thoughts and behavior.

And so - with a tip of the hat to President Kennedy - here’s the template for the JFK Reverse:

British Ring IBM Convention 2006, Part 5 (Written by Steve Evans)

Sunday, September 24
Sunday is usually just travelling home day but this year it contained a couple of unexpected treats. Firstly we had Coffee in the Ice Parlour with John Marshall which was smashing and then we went over to the Stars of the future show (just to have a quick look) and was bowled over by what we saw.

British Ring IBM Convention 2006, Part 4 (Written by Steve Evans)

Saturday, September 23, 2006
With the weather back to clear blue sky’s I went for another early morning walk and one of the Homeless people asked me if I wanted a ticket to see Mike Close. Eastbourne is a Spar town so has I had a bit of time to kill before breakfast I went to the one opposite the Pier and got a Newspaper and some Orange juice.

We cleverly applied reverse psychology at Breakfast and ordered things that we didn’t want and for the first time all week we got what we ordered - what can you do!! So full of Ham Salad at 9.30am on the dot Sep and entered the Dealers Hall because I was buying Magic books and I needed Sep to confirm they were the one’s I wanted. (Switch and Unleashed by Jay Sankey for the record).

British Ring IBM Convention 2006, Part 3 (Written by Steve Evans)

Friday, September 22, 2006
It is sod’s law that the day I chose to walk into town with Sep (after breakfast) was the only day when it peed down. I got back at 12ish too late for the John Calvert Lecture so (after changing into dry clothes) I had my first real walk round the dealers before going to the Charlie Frye lecture held in the Floral Hall at 1pm.

British Ring IBM Convention 2006, Part 2 (Written by Steve Evans)

Thursday, September 21, 2006
I woke early and went for a walk along the Sea Front. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the tide had washed the beaches clean. It was the perfect picture postcard setting apart from the Homeless people who seem to have their own beach community and who were on this day bemused by a number of jacket wearing elderly gentlemen still wandering aimlessly looking for Mike Close tickets.
